Introducing London's Favourite Jewish Party Band
The idea to form a Jewish party band was conceived by talented musicians Ivor Goldberg and Maurice Chernick. Having met through their work as music teachers, the pair bonded over their mutual love of traditional Jewish music.
Having developed the idea to form a London based Jewish party band, SHIR was formed.
With Ivor on guitar and vocals and Maurice switching between clarinet and vocals, the line up was completed with the addition of Steve Rose on Double Bass and Ronen Kozokaro on drums and percussion.
Having played at over a thousand events since then, Shir have gone on to establish themselves as firm favorites with London’s Jewish community, and established a reputation as one of the top Jewish party bands in the country, playing at Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs and Simchas throughout London and the UK.
The Ultimate Jewish Party Band
A literal English translation of the Hebrew word Shir is song, and songs are exactly what Shir are all about! Their high energy sets of traditional Simcha music (Hora) combined with Israeli led dancing are uplifting and great fun. During performances guests gather for circle, line and partnered dances, whilst a member of the band joins guests on the dancefloor to teach a few easy to learn dance steps.
Musically the band are very versatile and able to play traditional Jewish music across genres including Klezmer, Israeli, Yiddish, Sephardi, Mizrahi, Ladino and Simcha music. They have an extensive repertoire of songs for you to choose from, and are only too happy to accommodate specific song requests.
Traditional Jewish Music
With a long and distinguished history providing traditional Jewish music in London and around the UK for over 20 years, Shir have retained an enduring appeal, and have even played at Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs of children whose parents’ weddings the band had played at.
They have a huge following within the Jewish community around the country, having played at festivals and events in the UK and Europe, including Klezmer In The Park, The Sephardic International Music Festival, and the Amsterdam Jewish Music Festival.
Always looking to keep things fresh, the line up and format of the band has evolved and expanded to include violin and accordion players, as well as collaborations with great DJs.
